Need Crisis Youth Line : The Screening Process

The Screening Process involves 4 steps:

1. Application Form
Once a completed application form is received by the Volunteer Coordinator, the potential volunteers' name and phone number will be passed onto a screener who will contact the potential volunteer for a personal interview. The completed application form should arrive at least 7 business days prior to training start date.

2. Interview
The interview is approximately one hour in length and is held at our business offices. During the personal interview you will be asked to respond to five role-plays on tape which will be later heard by a member of the training group.

3. Tape
A member of the training team will listen to the tape and then consult with the interviewer to determine what your own natural helping style is. It is not a requirement that you have well-developed listening skills. Our training will provide you with the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to support callers.

4. Follow up
Once a collective decision has been made, you will be informed by telephone. If you are accepted into training, you will receive a package in the mail that consists of a confirmation letter and training schedule.
